Undergraduate Research Showcase

During the month of March 2024, I had the opportunity to participate in several workshops to learn about Research Posters and how to present them. During each stage of development, I worked closely with my assigned mentor who gave feedback.

The results was a public presentation of my poster on April 4th during the undergraduate research showcase. I discussed my research on anime music with staff and students at the faculty of music. Topics included the potential of responsive pedagogy and the reactions of classically-trained pianist to this genre of music.

Several discussion points were brought up such as the use of classicization to increase the availability of non-western art music in classical institutions, the role of arrangements/transcriptions throughout classical music history and whether learning an arrangements/transcriptions should be part of a pianists' education.

Respondents to the survey indicated that they mostly have a positive impression of Animenz's arrangement of My Dearest and the arrangement was technically demanding. Despite the interest, many participants were worried about whether it would be accepted by their piano teachers or classical institutions.
